Perodua sales up 15%

Sales of vehicles at Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) rose 14.8% to 108,500 units in the first half of this year, with almost half being its Axia model.

President and chief executive officer Datuk Aminar Rashid Salleh said 53,700 Axia cars were sold – making this one of its most popular model ever.

Since the Axia was opened for bookings last August, Perodua has received 134,000 orders and delivered 83,700 as of yesterday.

While Perodua’s performance was better compared to the 94,500 cars sold in the first half of 2014,  the second quarter ended June 30, 2015 was weaker.

Second quarter sales of 51,300 cars – 10% lower than 57,200 in the first quarter of this year.
Aminar attributed the weaker sales in the second quarter to the Goods and Services Tax implemented in April 1.

We foresee that demand for vehicles to be softer in the second half.”
